What Matters Is Not Just Staying Alive, but Remaining Human

Life can hit us in so many ways that sometimes we learn to survive by hardening our hearts. We become accustomed to protecting ourselves, distrusting others, staying silent, and simply moving forward however we can.

But surviving should never mean losing our humanity.

Being human means still being able to see someone else’s pain and feel compassion. It means helping without first asking what we will receive in return. It means learning to forgive without allowing others to destroy us again. It means holding on to our values even when life has shown us its most difficult side.

Because we can carry many wounds and still choose not to wound others.

We may have experienced injustice and still choose to act with justice. We may have walked through darkness and still become a small light for someone else.

Do not allow what you have lived through to take away your ability to love, to understand, and to believe that goodness still exists.

In the end, what matters will not simply be being able to say, “I survived.”

It will be looking back at our journey and saying, “After everything I went through, I did not lose my humanity.”

May God allow us not only to keep living, but above all, to keep a heart that is capable of caring for others.
